TIL Desk Sports/ India’s leading badminton player Saina Nehwal has dropped four places to be number nine in the latest world rankings while P V Sindhu remains number 10 despite winning a silver medal in the Rio Olympics.
Kidambi Srikanth, who lost to Lin Dan in the Olympic quarterfinals, gained a place in the rankings released today to be number 10. Sindhu won India’s only silver medal in Rio after beating three higher-ranked players — Wang Yihan (world no.4), Nozomi Okuhara (3) and Tai Tzu Ying (7).
Saina failed to progress to the knock-out stage in Rio in a shock early exit from the competition. On her return home, she underwent a knee surgery and is likely to be out of action for as long as four months.
