TIL Desk/National/Rajkot-Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Gujarat on Tuesday and inaugurated the first phase of SAUNI project which was initiated by him in 2012 while he was serving as the Chief Minister of the state.
The Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (SAUNI) project was launched by PM Modi in September 2012 and aims at diverting water from Sardar Sarovar dam to various other dams in otherwise dry Saurashtra region using pipelines and other techniques.
A mega event was planned ahead of PM Modi’s visit to the site and reportedly 700 state transport buses and 200 private buses were used to ferry people to the project site. Earlier in the morning, PM Modi took to micro-blogging site Twitter and said: “Looking forward to being in Gujarat today for the launch of SAUNI Yojana. This scheme will truly benefit the people of Gujarat.”
