Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke for the first time on the Manipur violence that has been raging for two months now. Speaking on the video that showed two women being paraded naked in Manipur, the prime minister said, “I am filled with pain and the incident is shameful for any civil society.”

As the clip of two Manipuri women paraded naked surfaced online, the Centre has ordered Twitter and other social media platforms to remove the controversial clips.

Tension mounted in the hills of Manipur after a May 4 video surfaced on Wednesday showing two women from one of the warring communities being paraded naked by a few men from the other side.
