TIL Desk Bollywood/ She made a compelling debut in Bollywood with Shonali Bose’s riveting story Margarita With a Straw and then appeared on screen along with Bollywood biggies like SRK in Fan and Akshay Kumar in Jolly LLB 2 but Sayani Gupta thinks that content cinema will always have an edge over commercial cinema.
Playing the role of blind activist and Kalki’s lover Khanum, Sayani made heads turn with her fierce acting prowess and restrained mannerism.
Her recent cameo in Jolly LLB 2 was again largely appreciated for its honesty. Sayani says, “I’m happy that I’m doing the kind of work that excites me in my own way. I am happy because of the balance I’ve been able to manage but it’s not success at all.”
About her breakthrough performance as Khanum, Sayani says, “When Margarita came along, it was the story that compelled me to be a part of it. I auditioned for about a month and did everything in my capacity to understand my blind character. I started classes and even started living with blindfolds. I am so fortunate to get such a challenging part so early in my career.”
