Opposition parties will hold protest outside Parliament

TIL Desk/National/New Delhi/ Opposition parties will hold a massive protest outside Parliament on November 23 against the government’s move to demonetise high tender notes. The decision was taken at a meeting of opposition leaders from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. “Opposition parties jointly decided that around 200 MPs will hold dharna in front of Gandhi statue on Wednesday,” said TMC Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien. TMC members also protested outside the Parliament today before House proceedings began.

Previously, West Bengal Chief Minsiter Mamata Banerjee lead a protest march to Rashtrapati Bhavan, seeking President Pranab Mukherjee’s intervention on the issue. The delegation comprised of members from across party lines, including from the Shiv Sena, an NDA alliance member.

The first three days of the Parliament Winter Session saw the opposition corner the government on demonetisation, with parties demanding suspension of House business and discussing the issue. “Will insist for PM Modi’s presence as the debate on demonetization starts in the Parliament: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge told.
