TIL Desk/National/Thiruvananthapuram/ R Babu, the trekker from Kerala, trapped in a steep gorge in Malampuzha mountains in Palakkad has been rescued. Teams of the Indian Army had undertaken the rescue operation.
Dressed in a T-shirt and shorts, Babu was pictured with smiling helmeted army personnel. Some were even clicking selfies and flashing the victory sign.
Babu climbed the Cherad Hill in Malampuzha along with two friends on Monday. Babu kept climbing even after his friends abandoned the effort, and reached the top, but he slipped and was trapped between two rocks.
For the rescue operation in Palakkad, two Army teams were moved on requisition from the state government.
“One team of 12 personnel from Madras Regiment Centre, Wellington, consisting of mountain qualified personnel with specialist equipment reached by road at the location at early hours on Wednesday,” Army sources said.
The second team of 22 personnel from Parachute Regiment centre, Bangalore also moved by aircraft to Sulur and reached the spot by 4:00 am.
