TIL Desk Sports/ Rio Olympics bronze medallist wrestler Sakshi Malik reached Delhi early on Wednesday and was accorded a grand welcome. Sakshi was accompanied by Haryanas Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij on her flight back home and was greeted by five Haryana ministers.
At a grand reception ceremony in Bahadurgarh, in her village in Rohtak district, the wrestler was felicitated with a cash prize of Rs 2.5 crore by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. “It’s a great feeling, the reception I got was amazing. A proud moment for me,” Sakshi said after arriving in New Delhi.
“The whole country supported me, I want to thank everyone. It was my biggest dream to win a medal for India at Olympics. I was preparing for this for the last 12 years”, she said. Sakshi’s father Satbir Malik said he can’t believe the reception his daughter got at the airport. Sakshi was also felicitated by villagers in Tikri Kalan town.
