Pak’s Senate condemns killing of Rohingyas in Myanmar

TIL Desk World/Islamabad/ Pakistan’s Senate today unanimously passed a resolution, condemning the killing of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. The resolution, moved by Leader of the House Raja Zafar- ul-Haq, termed the oppression being perpetrated against Rohingyas “as crimes against humanity”.

The House strongly condemned these crimes and killings tantamount to genocide against a peaceful community who are being persecuted on the grounds of race and religion. The House also urged the International Community to take notice of crimes being committed against humanity in Myanmar.

The Senate called upon the government of Pakistan to immediately take up the matter with UN Secretary General.
The House also urged the government to consider sending dispatching of relief and financial support to Rohingyas. Last week, the cabinet passed a similar resolution.

Pakistan on Saturday summoned the Myanmar envoy and lodged a strong protest over the ongoing violence against the Rohingya Muslims in the Rakhine state. According to UN estimates, over 1,000 people may have been killed in the crackdown launched by the Myanmar Army in the Rakhine state since last month.
