TIL Desk/World/Washington-The US and Pakistan do not agree on everything but the two sides are effectively coordinating on national security issues which is vital for combating extremism and protecting their citizens, a top American official has said. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said yesterday that the US and Pakistan share an “important” relationship and coordinate “effectively” on national security issues.
“The United States has an important relationship with Pakistan. We don’t agree on everything, but we certainly have been able to effectively coordinate on a variety of national security issues that’s important to fighting extremists and protecting the citizens in both our countries,” Earnest said.
When asked about speculation of a military coup in Pakistan in the aftermath of a failed bid in Turkey, Earnest said,”I am certainly not going to speculate about the political situation in another country.” “The relationship between the US and Turkey is different than its relationship with Pakistan. Pakistan is not a NATO ally, but certainly the US benefits to have a productive relationship with Pakistan, he said.
